100 Word Flash Fiction — The Funeral

Just a small piece of flash fic­tion. 🙂


She was the last one to walk the length of the church and stand in front of the cof­fin. Every­one was silent, watch­ing, as she stroked his cheek, and leaned for­ward to press a kiss against his cold lips then straight­ened.

“I miss you, baby,” her whis­pered words car­ried to the front pew, where his two grown sons sat. “But it won’t be long, now.”

She turned to face the con­gre­ga­tion, nod­ded to the two younger men who looked so much like the one behind her.

“The sun will set soon,” she told them, and smiled. “You should leave quick­ly.”
