She was the last one to walk the length of the church and stand in front of the coffin. Everyone was silent, watching, as she stroked his cheek, and leaned forward to press a kiss against his cold lips then straightened.
“I miss you, baby,” her whispered words carried to the front pew, where his two grown sons sat. “But it won’t be long, now.”
She turned to face the congregation, nodded to the two younger men who looked so much like the one behind her.
“The sun will set soon,” she told them, and smiled. “You should leave quickly.”
